Halfway Up the Stelvio

Franzenshöhe at dusk, then the Milky Way actually showed up

Left Arabba early and spent the day getting west. Stopped in Tires under the Catinaccio, then the valley went apple orchard through the Vinschgau before the climb. By late afternoon the Ortler was in the windshield and the hairpins were stacking up. Franzenshöhe sits about halfway up the Stelvio, which is a weirdly perfect place to stop: high enough that the air changes, low enough that you still have to ride the rest in the morning. After dinner I stayed out with the camera. No moon to speak of. The Milky Way actually showed up.
