A Sea of Clouds on the Glockner

Heiligenblut, hairpins, and that milky glacier lake

Out of Fusch and onto the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. I wandered Heiligenblut before the climb, then the pass did the thing mountain passes do when the valleys fill in and the peaks stick out of a cloud deck. Franz-Josefs-Höhe looks down on the Pasterze, that pale silt-green lake sitting where the glacier used to be bigger. Camera stayed out. Phone too. Late afternoon I was still pointed south, a turquoise lake showing up between the trees.
